It all started with a dream. As a little girl, growing up in India, Shiva had a dream that she held close to her heart. She wanted to change the world! She was touched with what she saw around her: the homeless children especially resonated with her. She wanted to build an orphanage. Soon, she realized that without resource or support it was hard to make her dream a reality. Family and friends did not take her seriously. Her passion was reignited when she met Arin and together they continued to help the less fortunate in Calcutta. However, with their limited resources and the need to settle themselves in their career and lives, their philanthropy had to be put on hold. She got married and later migrated to Canada.

In Canada, Shiva continued to devote her time to various local charities and supported organizations helping children worldwide.

Through it all, she kept her dream alive. She wanted to make a difference and change lives. Her devotion, sincerity, commitment and desire to help were recognized. She was given an opportunity to connect with a small village in Nepal.

Thakurkunj Pathamari, is a remote farming community. The village lacked basic infrastructures like clean drinking water, sanitation, electricity, school, health clinic or hospital. It is not accessible by road. The only way to reach the village is a 45 minutes trek from the nearest township.

Shiva was excited. She was going to make this happen. Together with her husband, Arin, she visited Pathamari in 2014 and started a small school with 10 children. She knew that there would be hurdles ahead, but that did not deter her. Visiting Pathamari was life changing for her.

The warm welcome, the beauty of the place and the simple lifestyle of this community touched her in a profound way and she knew that she would do what it takes to bring hope to these wonderful people. With the support of some friends, she continued to support the community and expand the school.

The school currently has 40 students. We have built an extension for the school building. She has worked relentlessly and today, “Born To Live”is a Canadian Registered Charitable Organization. We are happy to have brought changes to this community. But, there is so much more to do to help this community and many others like it. With your support, we want to eventually adopt the village and improve the lives of the people in the community. We aspire to provide them with clean drinking water, sanitation, access to healthcare, and empower women with skill training to improve their lives. It is our belief, that with your support we can make our collective dream a reality. We are very optimistic and hopeful. Our commitment is strong, and we invite you to join us on our journey.
